Let's Get Vulnerable

I grew up watching my mother yo-yo diet with one weight loss or exercise program after another. In the 70’s, being overweight meant there was something wrong with you. The embarrassment and ridicule was unnecessary and unkind.  Even our church made their views clear. I recall vividly when they asked my mother to leave their annual party where my parents had actually paid for with the little money we had and brought in a big beautiful birthday cake for the founder, who was dead. We got none of it. (It still gets my goat! And reminds me to be hyper vigilant about what I value highly – kindness) Walking out of there with a sick feeling, seeing my two younger brothers horror, my dad’s suppressed anger, and my mother’s deep hurt as we left that day, was a defining moment.

Because of the extra weight, and the type of work she did (she owned a cleaning business which all of us children helped in) my mother would go through times of complete debilitating back pain. I would watch my father do everything he could to help her. The only daughter of 4 children, I experienced every diet and exercise program right along with my mom. Some were better than others, most were just about deprivation, calorie counting or portion control. I rarely saw the inner work come in to play. That’s why I am adamant about the holistic approach. The inner work can never be separated from the whole of a healthy and fit body, mind and life.

What I loved most were the exercise programs. Growing up with the Jane Fonda tapes, Callanetics, Lily’s Yoga and the original Nautilus 24 hour fitness clubs, I found joy and my salvation in movement. I’d never miss a class and knew all the routines by heart. If an instructor was late or didn’t show, I was ready to step in. It was part escape from, but also escape to. It calmed and balanced my fragmented spirit. By the time I was 12 I was so obsessed with being model thin and pretty, I would wake at 5AM just to shower and go through a beauty regime that would take 2 hours. I wouldn’t leave the house without full hair and makeup so thick you couldn’t see a single flaw on my overly freckled face. All I could think about was being like the models in the magazines. I got my wish with a good start in my small town of Mesa, AZ. My parents were always supportive of my dreams. My mom would be my  “dresser” at the big runway shows I booked.  I recall at a Givenchy fashion show where I had to lose another 5 pound to be a size 4, my mom had also gotten so thin, I couldn’t even fit into her tiny stretch jeans. Overall, my mom set an example of a strong, capable, independent woman.

At 16, I had moved to NYC to pursue my dreams of modeling and acting and flee my nightmares… While I would meet my share of bad people, I also met some very good people that would guide the course of my life. One was a professional fitness trainer for celebrities and high powered executives who had her own fitness business. She took me under her wing and I soon began training clients for her.   I trained mornings and nights and auditioned in the day. I used fitness rather than drugs or cigarettes to stay thin for modeling; and that world still holds illusion of false health and beauty. In my mid 20’s, I relocated my home base to Los Angeles and began getting more serious with acting, studying with Robert Carnegie and Jeff Goldblum at Playhouse West. All the while, health and fitness would be my Divine path as I taught rooms of 50+ people, with 17 classes a week from yoga to quad step, kick boxing and loving every minute of it.

As far back as high school, I suffered IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), spending 4th period in the bathroom with my intestines protesting lunch. I never spoke of it – who was I to talk to? What was I to say? By the time I was in my 20’s I’d continuously be sick with one cold or flu after another – and I was a “health nut”. One day a client suggested I see her doctor. This internist, who was on the leading edge of holistic medicine was able to diagnose me correctly. He was the first doctor not to prescribe another antibiotic or pill, but instead,  told me that food was killing me. I was diagnosed with Celiac and being a long time vegan I had subsisted on gluten. As soon as I began changing my diet, I began to heal. Not just physically, but emotionally and mentally. This was the 3rd piece of the puzzle. No longer could I tell my clients to count calories and do portion control, nor to eat fat-free or be a vegan. I had a whole new path to start researching. HOLISTIC NUTRITION!

By the time my first son was born, I had been training clients for many years and began studying for my BS in Natural Health with the plan to become a Naturopathic Doctor.  I had already become a high level spiritual counselor in a religious sect I grew up in, but kept my work as a minister separate. However, something would shift and evolve for me after the perpetrator of sexual abuse in my childhood came to visit my newborn. When I saw that man hold my baby, in that moment, I could no longer deny, suppress nor ignore the crimes. I recall that moment vividly. I felt every cell in my body shift. But I was taught to deny the self and was good at “grinning and bearing”. And that, my friends is what I believe is the true beginning of all disease. The moment YOU deny YOU. It would take some time for it to all unravel and as things unfolded I told my mother I would never be a part of any event with this person and why. Her instant reaction was of denial and to accuse me of lying. A month later she called me and said, she too had been sexually abused in her childhood. She told me “If your father had known, he would have killed him”. But while it was likely her attempt to absolve something, it landed as more guilt and shaming. For several years, I approached my own healing by helping others heal, speaking globally on sexual abuse and trauma, being an advocate for no longer remaining silent and writing the book called Finding Joy Beyond Trauma: Stories of Healing, Strategies for Thriving.

One for one, the folks who would show up at my door saying they have tried everything to lose weight or to get free of pain … or had been told they have some condition or  have to take a pill for the rest of their life… or surgery is the only option… when they fully embrace the holistic transformation that Yogilachi ultimately is about – taking back control of body, mind and life from the inside out…the results are miraculous. While not everyone who is overweight or puts themselves last, has a sexual abuse history, there is a common thread with the lack of self-care and self-worth. It’s become more commonplace to relinquish our health, and our power, to something outside of ourselves. No matter what it is, it’s worth clearing so you can be 100% WHOLE and shine Your LIGHT. I believe that is your true purpose. And it’s my purpose to help make that happen. Many powerful and productive businessmen and women find themselves overweight, tired and in pain, lacking the strength and energy they once had. Understandably they’ve given everything to their family and career and now find themselves unable to enjoy the fruits of their labor. I don’t want that for anyone that I know I can help. While I can’t help 100% of the people out there, I can help 100% of the people who come to me, 100% of the time. I created Yogilachi to help TRANSFORM lives. To help clients get free of pain, release excess weight and take back control of their health and well being, from the inside out.

Many give everything to their business and to their families. They push themselves past the breaking point, because that’s how they think it should be. I too have done the same. Take it from first hand experience, this kind of lifestyle can’t last. Over the past year,  I closed my studio and ended my 17-year marriage after deciding to take back control of my health and well being and transform my own life. I streamlined Yogilachi and brought my training back into my home where I can balance career, calling, self-care and raise my boys. I am working to build a better life for myself and my children while I help transform lives through all of my knowledge and skills. You too deserve to take back your body, your health and transform your life! I believe in you!

I am a highly trained and experienced Holistic Health and Fitness Trainer with a specialty in Corrective Exercise and Holistic Nutrition. Yogilachi is a word I coined blending yoga, Pilates and tai chi, three of the key forms of movement I utilize to help my clients achieve optimal well being and lasting transformation. I bring compassion, 30 years experience and 64+ certifications to each client engagement.

“Stephana is the arsenal you need to defeat your self doubt, your fear of failure and make a true change. She is your secret weapon in your war with your past, your judgments and your state of mind. She will move you from ‘I can’t’ to ‘I choose not to’.

Stephana will make you love yourself as you are right now, forget about “your ideal weight” and make you think of how you FEEL in your cloths or when you look in the mirror. And that is truly what we’re all after, isn’t it – to FEEL better, to FEEL attractive, to FEEL loved. With her guidance, I am going through an amazing transformation: body, mind and spirit. She is bringing out the real me – the one who not only CAN do it, but IS doing it. And all of that without a constant daily struggle. She will push you to your limits, she will make you confront your deepest fears and she will hold your hand and support you as you move through them and bring out the real you.

She is not a “get thin quick” solution or a gym membership you never use, but rather a transformation guru who can help you with your nutrition, your happiness, your relationships (with yourself and others) and your workout. It is so rare to find one person who can truly deliver all that and more, which is why I am so grateful to have met Stephana and be a part of her boot camp club. If you’re tired of the way you feel and are committed to improving all aspects of your life – Stephana is your go-to woman. She is definitely mine!  Thanks for all you do.”    Yifat Cohen

Strong and Agile

The human body is not meant to be obese, that is actually a symptom. The root cause is not always just about food or exercise. At Yogilachi, we are interested in a holistic solution and getting to the source of the problem to help you experience optimal health and lasting transformation.

Mindful & Happy

After 30 years studying, researching and training, the one thing I know for sure is that nothing outside of you can ever make you happy. Your health, your well being, ultimately both come from within. At Yogilachi, an optimal mindset is a priority.

Excellent Health

There is no one size fits all when it comes to nutrition. Our bodies change, our nutrition needs vary from season to season, circumstance and events. We cannot get on the assembly line of cultural diets and expect to thrive. At Yogilachi, optimal nutrition is a key process on the journey to vitality.

Youth and Beauty

We age because our bodies deteriorate, whether from lack of use or improper use. Whether from improper care and feeding of the body, or neglect of the mind and spirit.  At Yogilachi, vibrant health, youthful energy, and radiant beauty is a commonplace side effect of our holistic practice!

Stephana is amazing, and the real deal! Hard to imagine someone has this much experience but she truly does. She focuses on all aspects of our health: physical, emotional and spiritual and I LOVE how she ties it all together (Yoga, Pilates and Tai Chi). She’s the perfect balance of tough love with a sincere and compassionate heart. I’ve been training with her since the beginning of December and have had significant progress and look forward to my continued whole-health-transformation. Thank you Stephana, you are the best!

I am 44 years old and was starting to feel my age. I started having knee and hip problems about a year ago. I have been training with Stephana now for about 2 months, I’ve dropped 15lbs my clothes fit better, I feel much better, and best of all my knee hasn’t given me any trouble at all! I love her whole body approach to fitness and wellness. I highly recommend yogilachi to all you guys out there looking to lose a few pounds or just wanting to get back some of that energy and stamina.

Stephana is THE most passionate, caring, and honorable person I know. My Mom introduced us and the second I walked through the door she was bursting with enthusiasm and pure joy. She did not even know me yet, but she knew she wanted to help guide me on my journey to a healthy lifestyle. After that day I attended personal training and group sessions, along with exchanging emails with plenty of nutrition questions. Stephana is there for it all, she does not want to just make you fit in the physical sense, but also in an emotional, psychological, and spiritual sense. She was there for the good and the bad and I have her to thank for my success in these first few months of becoming the best version of myself. Thank you Stephana!

Yogilachi is a wonderful place. There are many places to workout these days, but none have made me feel quite as comfortable and empowered as Yogilachi. Stephana really knows what she is doing and makes you feel very welcome and inspired to live your best life. You really need to check it out! You’ll be glad you did!

Finding Stephana and Yogilachi feels like someone is answering my prayers! I’ve had back and shoulder pain for years that no doctor or specialist had been able to help me with. Stephana has not only helped me but has been a coach, mentor, and compassionate spirit. Her small group classes are like getting a personal trainer because she is so in tune with her clients. I sleep better, feel better, and am starting to finally lose weight!

I was hesitant to try Yogilachi but after meeting with Stephana and doing the classes I’m so glad that I did. Being someone who has always tried to stay in shape, I’ve tried different things but Yogilachi is nothing like anything you’ve done before, it’s a blend of not only Yoga, Pilates and Tai Chi, but Stephana brings her expansive knowledge of these practices plus never ending information on nutrition and life as a whole that it’s seriously like having a life coach who helps guide you to make continuous progress towards your best “self”. Being healthy is not just about being lean and having muscles, it’s having an overall healthy balance emotionally as well and Stephana will guide you in all aspects. Try it and stick with it and everyday you’ll improve, you won’t regret it! The Couples Nights she does are a great way to connect with your significant other. Since the first night we tried it and we will continue to go whenever there is one, we love it. My husband loves the stretching and we both love how we get to connect on a higher level during the class where we’re soley focused on each other.

I saw a brochure for Yogilachi and signed up for a trial week. I knew I needed to do something differently, but I wasn’t sure what the right fit would be. I was bored with exercise and didn’t feel like things were making a difference. After a couple of classes with Stephana I noticed a vast improvement in body awareness, alignment and posture. Every class is different, so I have never been bored. There is also a mind-body connection that is wonderfully different than a mindless workout such as running on a treadmill or riding an exercise bike. I look forward to going to class. The community is unique: small class sizes with very individualized attention, a non-judgemental atmosphere, a supportive group of people, very informative and educational instruction. I leave class energized, not drained. I am so glad I found Yogilachi. I hope other people discover this gem and benefit from it as much as I am.

Finding Yogilachi and Stephana was serendipity; I was looking strengthen my core and help manage a chronic joint issue.  Yogilachi absolutely is helping me address both of those goals, but I had no idea how much more it would have to offer.  With Stephana’s expertise and broad knowledge base, she is truly able to provide a “whole picture” perspective that doesn’t treat body parts in isolation, or even just “fitness” in isolation.  It has been very helpful for me to better understand the different factors–including nutrition and movement habits–that can contribute to chronic body “issues.”  I would recommend Yogilachi to anyone who isn’t just looking for a “workout” but who truly wants to understand their body better and move toward having a healthier lifestyle overall.  (And, you will get a workout in the process.) 🙂

I can’t say enough good things about Stephana and her AMAZING studio.  I am not an active, fitness-y person, but I feel transformed after attending classes for the past 6 weeks (down 10 lbs and lots of Inches). This is the first time ever I’ve looked forward to a work out. The combination of yoga, Pilates, and tai chi enables one to pack a lot of good stuff into one hour. Give it a try–you won’t regret it!
